ETSU to host Furman on Tuesday

Volleyball ready for start of weeklong homestand

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct 28, 2024) – East Tennessee State University volleyball returns to Johnson City for a weeklong homestand featuring a trio of conference opponents.

The Bucs (13-8, 5-4 SoCon) host Furman at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, and will also welcome Samford (6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1) and Mercer (4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2) to Johnson City later this week.

Furman enters the rescheduled match at 8-10 (2-5 SoCon) after not being able to make their originally scheduled trip to Tennessee due to Hurricane Helene. The schedule change results in the unique twist of the two squads competing twice in a four-day span. On Friday, the Bucs traveled to Greenville and won 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-22).

Freshman outside hitter Makayla Bays led the Bucs with a 13 kill, 11 dig double-double in last week's meeting. Graduate setter Reese Rhodes added a 32 assist, ten dig double-double and SoCon Defensive Player of the Week Abbey Thomas had six kills and eight blocks (three solo).

The Paladins are led by Chandler Parker, who has 189 kills on the campaign. Furman utilizes two setters – Emily Navarro has 289 assists and Quinn Morrissey has 275. Ava Auguston leads Furman with 14 aces, Kennedy Seekford has 302 digs and Genevieve Perry has 59 blocks. ETSU is now 35-36 all-time vs. Furman. Devine is 9-9, with a 6-4 mark at home.

Volleyball will sell tickets for matches during the 2024 season. Tickets for each match are $5 and can be purchased online at https://etsutickets.com/ or in person prior to the game. Group rate (10+) tickets are available for $3/ticket and ETSU students can attend for free.
