ETSU travels to Furman and UNCG

Volleyball ready for matches with Paladins and Spartans

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct 24, 2024) – East Tennessee State University volleyball continues SoCon play on the road this weekend.

The Bucs (11-8, 3-4 SoCon) head to South Carolina to play Furman at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, and then make the trip north to play UNC Greensboro at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.

ETSU split matches with Chattanooga and Western Carolina last weekend. The Bucs were swept by the Mocs on the road, but bounced back against the Catamounts 3-0 at home. In the win over WCU, freshman Makayla Bays and junior Isabelle Iosua both set career highs with 14 and 11 kills, respectively.

Furman enters Friday's match at 7-9 (1-4 SoCon) after having three of their initially scheduled conference matches postponed due to Hurricane Helene. The lone team the Bucs have not yet played in the conference, Furman earned their SoCon win over UNC Greensboro in the conference opener, but went 0-4 since, all in road matches. In nonconference play, Furman and ETSU both won matches against Charlotte and Gardner-Webb.

The Paladins are led by Chandler Parker, who has 175 kills on the campaign. Furman operates with two setters – Emily Navarro has 261 assists and Quinn Morrissey has 247. Navarro and Ava Auguston have 11 aces each, Kennedy Seekford has 273 digs and Genevieve Perry has 58 blocks.

ETSU is 34-36 all-time vs. Furman. Devine is 7-9, with a 1-5 mark in Greenville. The Paladins last defeated ETSU 3-0 in 2023.

UNC Greensboro enters the weekend at 7-13 (2-6 SoCon), coming off a home win over Samford. ETSU won the first meeting between the Bucs and Spartans 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-20, 25-23) in Johnson City. UNCG's Allie Sweet led all hitters with 19 kills on 69 attempts in the contest, and Brianna Cantrell and Jenna Forster posted 12 each for the Blue & Gold.

The Spartans are led by Sweet, who has 336 kills on the year. Izora Gragg has 766 assists, Madeline Timmerman has 18 aces and 69 blocks, and Chloe Nussbaum has 297 digs. ETSU is 34-12 all-time against UNCG. Devine is 18-4, including a 7-2 mark in Greensboro.
