ABOUT THE BUCS
- ETSU got back into the win column on Thursday when it upended Western Carolina on the road, 56-47. With Thursday's win, the Bucs improved to 14-5 overall and 3-1 in league play.
- Nevaeh Brown paced the Bucs on the score sheet against the Catamounts with 18 points to go with three rebounds. Thursday's performance marked the sixth time this season that Brown has scored 18 or more points in a game.
- Journee McDaniel also had a stellar offensive outing on Thursday with 15 points fueled by a 5-for-9 effort from the field and three makes from beyond the arc. McDaniel also grabbed eight rebounds in the victory. McDaniel's 15-point outburst is the second-most for her this season trailing only her 17-point day vs. Lees-McRae in early December.
- Courtney Moore did not make a 3-pointer on Thursday so she remains eight away from 150 in her ETSU career. Furthermore, she needs just 22 more triples to pull into a tie for the fifth-most 3-pointers made in program history with former Buc Jennifer Cooke (164).
- With another lockdown defensive effort on Thursday, the Bucs are up to sixth in the country in scoring defense allowing just 53.1 points per game. Only VCU (50.2), Albany (50.9), Holy Cross (51.6), Kansas State (52.1) and Manhattan (52.4) rank ahead of the Bucs in that category.
- ETSU will look to do something it has accomplished just once before in 2023-24 and that's win back-to-back road games. The first time ETSU did this was in November when it knocked off Radford and Presbyterian in consecutive road contests.
ABOUT UNC GREENSBORO
- UNCG enters Saturday's game with the Bucs with a 13-7 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the SoCon.
- The Spartans have been a very good team in Greensboro as they have an 11-1 record on their home floor. UNCG just suffered its first home loss of the season on Thursday to league-leader Chattanooga, 73-55.
- A couple of players to watch on Saturday for the Spartans are Khalis Cain and Jayde Gamble. Cain currently leads the conference in offensive rebounds per game (3.9), while Gamble is the SoCon leader in steals (54) and steals per game (2.70). Gamble's steal total ranks 17th in Division I entering play on Saturday.
- As a team, UNC Greensboro leads all Southern Conference teams in blocks per game (4.4), steals per game (8.5) and turnovers forced per game (16.20).
- Historically, the series between ETSU and UNCG has been a competitive one. The Bucs hold the slight edge winning 22 of the 43 all-time meetings. The Spartans have won three of the last four meetings, but the two teams split the two matchups last season with each squad winning on its respective home floor.
UP NEXT
Following Saturday's matchup with the Spartans, ETSU will return home to Brooks Gym to host Furman on February 1. Tip-off for that game is set for 7 p.m.
