JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2024) – The ETSU men's tennis team will travel to Nashville for a match at Vanderbilt on Wednesday. First serve between the Buccaneers and Commodores is set for 1 p.m.
ETSU dropped its season opener at
No. 15 Wake Forest on Monday, 6-1. The Bucs' point came from
Francisco Lamas as he upended Wake's Jamieson Nathan in three sets, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (13-11) in the No. 6 singles position. Furthermore, Lamas is half of the nationally-ranked doubles team with
Dimitri Badra. Lamas and Badra closed the fall season ranked No. 55 in the country.
Wednesday's match will be the season opener for the Commodores. Vanderbilt went 10-18 last season, including a 3-11 mark in SEC play. Like ETSU, the Commodores have a nationally-ranked doubles team in Nathan Cox and Jeremie Casabon. This tandem was ranked No. 59 in the final ITA doubles rankings of the fall season.
ETSU and Vanderbilt have met just once previously. That matchup was in the 2013 NCAA Tournament and the Commodores came away with a 4-0 victory.
