Box Score ETSU readies for a matchup vs. Davidson Saturday
HIGH POINT, N.C. (Sept. 8, 2023) – The ETSU volleyball team fell in three sets (25-12, 25-19, 25-16) at High Point on Friday night. With Friday's loss to High Point, the Bucs move to 0-7 on the 2023 campaign.
Stat Standouts – Jenna Forster (Maryville, Tenn.) led the way for the Bucs on Friday with eight kills on 16 attacks and finished the match with a .312 hitting percentage. Malgorzata Andersohn (Bydgoszcz, Poland) tallied 13 assists, while Jasmal Cruz (Trujilio Alto, Puerto Rico) paced the Buc defense with 12 digs.
First Set – ETSU and High Point traded the first eight points of the match. However, HPU reeled off a 6-0 run to jump out to a 10-4 lead. A kill by Amanda Lowe (Blacksburg, Va.) broke the Panther run, but the home team kept the pressure on. High Point put together a 6-0 run late in the frame to finish off a 25-12 win in the opening frame.
Second Set – The second frame was a tight one with seven tied scores and three lead changes. Abbey Thomas (Goldsboro, N.C.) picked up a kill to make the score 13-12 High Point midway through the stanza. However, another run by the Panthers (3-0) gave them a little separation from the Bucs. ETSU, meanwhile, struggled getting its offense going with eight errors against six kills. High Point would eventually win the second frame, 25-19, to go up 2-0 in the match.
Third Set – In what proved to be the final frame of the match, Forster gave the Bucs a boost offensively with four kills on five attacks. High Point, however, totaled five blocks in the third set alone to prevent the Bucs from finding rhythm offensively. Behind their work at the net and a .304 attack percentage, the Panthers won the third set, 25-16, clinching the three-set victory.
Next Up – ETSU will be back in action on Saturday when it takes on Davidson in another non-conference matchup. First serve is set for 4 p.m. from High Point, N.C.
