HIGH POINT, N.C. (Sept. 7, 2023) – The ETSU volleyball team will return to action this weekend with a pair of matches in North Carolina as a part of the High Point Invitational. First, the Bucs will take on host High Point on Friday before taking on Davidson on Saturday.

ETSU's MATCHES

Friday, Sept. 8 / ETSU at High Point / 6 p.m. / ESPN+ / Live Stats

Saturday, Sept. 9 / ETSU vs. Davidson / 4 p.m. / Live Stats

ABOUT THE BUCS

  • ETSU dropped three matches last weekend at the Golden Eagle Invitational against Tennessee Tech, Cincinnati and Kennesaw State.
  • Malgorzata Andersohn (Bydgoszcz, Poland) was named to the Golden Eagle Invitational All-Tournament team last weekend. Andersohn racked up 55 assists and added 29 digs in the three matches. It marks the second consecutive tournament that Andersohn has garnered All-Tournament team honors.
  • The Bucs totaled a season-high 11 aces in their last match vs. Kennesaw State. The 11 aces by ETSU against the Owls marks just the third time in the past two seasons that the Bucs have had 10 or more aces in a single match (12 vs. UNCG – Oct. 7, 2022 & 10 vs. The Citadel – Oct. 15, 2023).
  • Junior Abbey Thomas (Goldsboro, N.C.) enters this weekend's action at High Point fourth in the SoCon in blocks per set (0.90). Thomas is already over halfway from surpassing her block total from last season (19.0 in 2023, 33.0 in 2022).

ABOUT HIGH POINT

  • High Point enters this weekend's action with a record of 4-3.
  • The Panthers are riding a three-match winning streak with victories over Yale, Army and Wofford.
  • Dylan Maberry is a player to watch for High Point on Friday, as she currently leads the country with 143 kills. Furthermore, Maberry was named the Preseason Player of the Year in the Big South before the 2023 season. Maberry is coming off a season where she earned AVCA Honorable Mention All-American honors.
  • Setting up Maberry and the rest of the Panther offense has been Allie Gray. After two weekends of play, Allie Gray ranks second nationally with 289 assists.
  • ETSU and High Point have matched up just four times previously. The Bucs won the first three contests between these two programs but dropped the last one in five sets in 2018.

ABOUT DAVIDSON

  • The Wildcats are off to a 6-0 start this season with victories over Le Moyne, College of Charleston, West Virginia, Queens (N.C.), Northern Illinois and UNC Wilmington.
  • Davidson's 6-0 start marks the program's best beginning to a season in over two decades. The last time the Wildcats started 6-0 or better was in 1990.
  • A key in Davidson's success early on has been Bella Brady. Brady leads the Atlantic 10 in digs per set (5.33) and ranks ninth nationally in that category.
  • Davidson also has a balanced attack, with four players averaging better than two kills per set. Jackie Bardin paces this group, averaging 2.89 kills per set.
  • Formerly conference rivals, Davidson and ETSU have met 30 times over the years. ETSU has come away with a victory in 20 of those 30 contests. Saturday's match will mark the first meeting in the series since 2010.

UP NEXT

ETSU will wrap up its non-conference schedule next weekend (Sept. 15-16) at the WKU Volleyball Invitational. At the Invitational, the Bucs will take on Western Michigan, Western Kentucky and Ball State.
