ETSU volleyball gears up for Golden Eagle Invitational

Bucs remain in state to take on Tennessee Tech, Cincinnati and Kennesaw State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 31, 2023) – The ETSU volleyball team gears up for its second tournament of the season as the Buccaneers travel to Cookeville for the Golden Eagle Invitational.

ABOUT THE BUCS

  • ETSU opened the season last weekend at the NKU Invitational where the Bucs dropped matches to Bowling Green, Northern Kentucky and then-No. 14 Ohio State
  • Setter Malgorzata Andersohn (Bydgoszcz, Poland) was named to the NKU Invitational All-Tournament Team … Andersohn finished the tournament with 44 assists and 27 digs, including a double-double against NKU … Andersohn finished with 20 assists and 20 digs in the match against the Norse
  • Amanda Lowe (Blacksburg, Va.) and Kali Walker (Wildwood, Fla.) paced the Buccaneer attack as they combined for 44 kills … Lowe totaled 24 over the three matches and Walker added 20
  • As a team, ETSU registered 111 digs and 19 blocks in the opening weekend, but attack errors cost the Bucs in all three matches as they doubled up their opponents, 80 to 40

ABOUT TENNESSEE TECH  

  • Tennessee Tech opened the season last weekend at the Mountaineer Classic in Boone, N.C.
  • The Golden Eagles dropped two of the three matches with their lone win being a sweep over Bellarmine … TTU dropped a five-set match to William & Mary and were swept on Saturday by Appalachian State
  • Tennessee Tech is led by Madolyn Isringhausen as she collected 34 kills, 22 digs and four blocks last weekend … In addition, Skylar Boom (25 kills) and Ava Schubert (22 kills) combined for 47 kills with Boom hitting .327 on the weekend
  • Isringhausen, Boom and sophomore setter Jodran Karlen all earned Preseason OVC honors … Last season, Karlen became the first player in OVC history to win both Setter of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season
  • The Golden Eagles were picked the preseason favorite in the OVC … Last year, TTU posted 17 wins and 14 in league play, marking the most since 2008
  • Friday will mark the 15th all-time meeting between the two programs with Tennessee Tech leading the all-time series, 10-4 … This marks the first meeting between the two in-state foes since 2011 when ETSU defeated the Golden Eagles in four sets
  • ABOUT CINCINNATI
  • Cincinnati stayed at home to open the 2023 season as they hosted Alabama State, Xavier and Indiana State … The Bearcats won two of their three matches as they secured wins over Alabama State and Indiana State
  • Outside hitter Jadyn Bauss paced Cincinnati last weekend as she averaged 4.90 kills per set and a .303 attack percentage … Middle blocker Abby Walker averaged 3.50 kills and generated a .426 hitting percentage to go along with 1.20 blocks per set
  • The Bearcats broke the program record and Big 12 record for service aces in a four-match set in their contest against Xavier with 18
  • Cincinnati ranks 13th in the nation in service aces per set (2.70) and Shaye Eggleston is fourth (1.14)
  • This marks the fourth all-time meeting for ETSU against Cincinnati … The Bearcats won all four meetings with the most recent being a five-set match in 2018

KENNESAW STATE

  • Kennesaw State went out west to open the 2023 season as they played in the Bobcat Blackridge Invite in Bozeman, Mont. … The Owls secured wins over North Dakota and Oregon State before falling to host Montana State in four sets
  • Sophomore Manu Johnsen was named ASUN Player of the Week following her play in Montana … Johnsen averaged 4.27 kills and 1.82 digs per set for the tournament … Overall, she totaled 47 kills and 52 points – both of which lead all ASUN players
  • KSU's win over Oregon State marked the program's first-ever victory over a Pac-12 opponent
  • Johnsen also earned preseason all-ASUN honors, while the Owls were slated third behind FGCU and Lipscomb in the Preseason Coaches Poll
  • Last season, Kennesaw State went 18-10 and 10-6 in ASUN play … The Owls have rattled off eight straight winning seasons, while eclipsing the 20-win mark in four of those campaigns
  • ETSU and Kennesaw State used to be ASUN members from 2006-13 … The Bucs lead the all-time series over the Owls, 11-4, while the Bucs swept KSU in the last meeting back in 2013

UP NEXT

ETSU heads to North Carolina for the High Point Invitational. The Bucs will take on host High Point on Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m., while facing Davidson Saturday at 4 p.m.
