Things to Know – ETSU at Jacksonville State

Bucs open 2023 season on Saturday in Alabama

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (Aug. 31, 2023) – With fall camp and preseason workouts in the rearview mirror, the ETSU football team is finally set to kickoff the 2023 season as the Buccaneers head to Alabama and take on Jacksonville State this Saturday.

Below are the Things to Know brought to you by Citizens Bank.

No. 1 – Kickoff: Saturday's game will kickoff at 2:02 p.m. ET inside Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium.

No. 2 – Broadcast Information: The Buccaneer Sports Network (BSN) will provide ETSU fans with complete pregame, in-game and postgame coverage on the Bucs' flagship station WXSM-AM 640 and affiliate station 104.9 FM NASH ICON. Click here for live audio. 

BSN begins its pregame programing one hour and 30 minutes prior to kickoff with the 30-minute Tennessee Lottery Tailgate Show, followed by the Pregame Show presented by Lafayette Heat & Air, which will lead up to 30 minutes prior to kickoff. The Appalachian Orthopedic Countdown to Kickoff will then lead into the final moments before kickoff.     

The broadcast team of "Voice of the Bucs" Jay Sandos, analyst Mark Hutsell and sideline reporter Robert Harper will provide ETSU fans all the information they need to complement their game-day activities. 

At halftime, the crew will have the Mr. Electric Halftime Show, while fans can tune into the Mullican Flooring Post Game Show for a full wrap up, with game statistics, players and coach interviews and other post-game information.  

Saturday's game will also be broadcast on ESPN+ with the team of Chase Robinson (play-by-play) and Mickey Shadrix (analyst) and Tera Talmadge (sideline) on the call.

No. 4 – Watch Party at Wild Wing Cafe: For fans who cannot make the trip to Jacksonville this weekend, Wild Wing Café in downtown Johnson City will be holding a Watch Party for all ETSU fans. 

No. 5 – Stadium Information: Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium is located at 700 Pelham Rd. N, Jacksonville, Ala. The stadium opened in 1947 and holds 24,000 fans. 

No. 6 – Series History: Saturday marks the fourth all-time meeting against Jacksonville State with the Gamecocks winning two of the previous three against the Bucs … The last time these two teams met was in the first round of the FCS Playoffs where ETSU suffered a 34-27 setback on Nov. 24, 2018 … The other two times ETSU and Jacksonville State met came in 1959 and 1960 … ETSU won 20-14 in Johnson City back in 1960, while JSU won the first-ever meeting 13-0 in 1959 in Alabama. 

No. 7 – Huzzie Closing in on 2,000: ETSU redshirt senior wide receiver Will Huzzie enters his final year in the Blue & Gold nearing a personal milestone … Huzzie has totaled 1,979 receiving yards in 38 career games with the Bucs … With 21 more receiving yards, Huzzie will become just the third Buccaneer of all-time to reach 2,000 career receiving yards … B.J. Adigun (1994-97) is the all-time Buccaneer leader with 2,802 receiving yards and Cecil Moore (1999-02) is second with 2,488 yards … Huzzie also enters the season with 148 receptions, which rank third all-time … Huzzie needs 14 catches to pass Moore for second and 25 catches to break B.J. Adigun's school record of 172 … In his 38 games played, Huzzie has posted 16 touchdown receptions … The Duluth, Ga. native needs three more touchdown catches to move into the top three Buccaneer leaders and 11 to break Adigun's record of 26.
