COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 30, 2023) –?ETSU women's soccer completes a three-game road stretch with one of its most-played non-conference opponents ever, the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on Thursday at Tech Soccer Field in Cookeville.

ABOUT THE BUCS  

• ETSU defeated Gardner-Webb 3-0 on Sunday. The victory matched the Bucs' road non-conference win total from 2022. A win Thursday would tie the team's overall road win count from 2022 just five games into the season.
• Midfielder Sinoxolo Cesane (Cape Town, South Africa) was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Cesane scored twice in the win over Gardner-Webb and scored ETSU's goal against Tennessee last Thursday in Knoxville.
• Cesane is tied for fifth in the SoCon in points and second in goals.
• Redshirt freshman Ruby Teixeira (Nashville, Tenn.) assisted on both of Cesane's goals against Gardner-Webb. Her two assists through four games lead the Bucs and are tied for third in the SoCon.
• ETSU's six goals through the first four games is the most since 2018 (11).

ABOUT TENNESSEE TECH 

• The Golden Eagles are 0-2-1 entering Thursday's match, most recently falling 2-0 at Liberty on August 25.
• TTU won the OVC regular season title in 2022, its first such championship since 1998. The Golden Eagles were denied postseason play by SIUE in the OVC championship game. Tennessee Tech is the preseason OVC favorite in 2023.
• Tech is led by the reigning OVC Midfielder of the Year, Yao Giada Zhou. Giada Zhou scored twice and finished second in the OVC with six assists in 2022 but has yet to register a point in 2023.
• TTU scored its only goal of the season to date in the 85th minute against Western Kentucky on August 17, off the foot of Abigail Davis.

SERIES HISTORY 

• This is the 17th meeting between ETSU and Tennessee Tech. The Buccaneers are 5-7-4 all-time against the Golden Eagles.
• The Bucs played Tech seven times in eight seasons from 2000-07 and annually from 2011-2018.
• This is just the second meeting in the last five years; most recently, the teams played to a 0-0 draw on September 17, 2021.
• ETSU's last win in Cookeville came August 24, 2014, when Simona Koren scored twice to key a 5-1 rout of the Golden Eagles.
