JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 19, 2023) –?With opening night now behind them, ETSU women's soccer looks for its first win of 2023 when they host the Davidson Wildcats on Sunday at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

ABOUT THE BUCS  

• ETSU is still searching for its first goal of 2023 after a 0-0 draw with Kennesaw State on Thursday. The Bucs were active offensively with 12 shots and six shots on goal but couldn't break through against the Owls.
• The Bucs allowed just two shots on goal on Thursday, the fourth time in the Jay Yelton era they have held an opponent to two or fewer. Previously, the Bucs allowed two shots on goal against Presbyterian on August 24, 2022, and one shot on goal to VMI on October 7, 2022, and Presbyterian on August 26, 2021.
• In her college debut, freshman Ava Matherne (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) led ETSU with three shots, all on goal. Other debuts on Thursday included the first career start for Ruby Teixeira (Nashville, Tenn.) and the first appearances for Reagan Fitzgerald (Oviedo, Fla.) and Ella Parker (Jefferson, Ga.).
• Goalkeeper Ashton Blair (Knoxville, Tenn.) posted her fourth career shutout on Thursday. The clean sheet marked the 14th time in the last 34 games the Bucs have held an opponent scoreless.
• Center backs Sydney Somogyi (Germantown, Tenn.) and Madi Hook (Fareham, England) played the full 90 minutes together in the back line for the fifth straight game, dating back to October 14th, 2022. It's the 28th time Somogyi has played the full game for the Bucs and the 11th time for Hook. 

ABOUT DAVIDSON 

• The Wildcats opened their season with a 2-0 win at Gardner-Webb on Thursday, scoring in the 14th and 24th minutes.
• Davidson hired Riley Piechnick as the fifth head coach in program history on February 9. Piechnick was previously the associate head coach at Bucknell, where she was part of back-to-back Patriot League championships in 2021 and 2022.
• The Wildcats were picked 12th out of 15 teams in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll. They return 18 players from a team that went 13-3-4 in 2022 and reached the A10 semifinals.
• Davidson's top goal scorer from 2021 and 2022, Aleia Gisolfi-McCready, scored the second goal in Thursday's win to open her account for 2023. The goal was the eighth of her career.
• The Wildcats had the second-lowest goals against average in the nation a season ago, allowing just nine goals in 20 contests (0.450) 

SERIES HISTORY 

• This is the 11th meeting between ETSU and Davidson. They played annually as SoCon foes from 1997-2004 but will meet for just the third time in the last 19 years on Sunday.
• Davidson holds an 8-2 advantage in the all-time series.
• Their last matchup was August 27th, 2017, at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Eleonora Goldoni scored a bookend brace in the 6th and 84th minutes to lift the Bucs over the Wildcats, 2-0.
