Bucs' team GPA ranked in nation's top 20 percentile

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 13, 2023) – The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced on Thursday that 1,333 collegiate and high school volleyball teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season. This marks an all-time record number of programs honored for their academic achievements.

Not only did ETSU land the academic honor, but also landed on the 2023 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award Honor Roll with one of the top team GPAs in all of NCAA Division I. ETSU was one of 44 programs that finished within the top 20 percentile nationwide for highest team GPA.

The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.

In addition to these honors, all 18 members of the 2022 ETSU volleyball team were honored by the Southern Conference on the league's honor roll, announced yesterday. Eight of the 18 were also honored with a SoCon Commissioner's Medal for having a 3.8 GPA or higher, while Taylor Roberts (Sneads, Fla.) finished the year with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
