Sophomore guard wins second award in four weeks
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Feb. 14, 2023) – For the second time this season, ETSU sophomore guard Kendall Folley (Lebanon, Ohio) was named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.
Following a career night at Samford and a couple of key road wins over the Bulldogs and the Mercer Bears last week, Folley averaged 20.0 points per game with nine rebounds, seven steals, five assists and just three turnovers. The sophomore guard shot 17-26 from the floor, 4-7 behind the arc and made both her free throw attempts to average over 50 percent in all shooting categories.
Most of her damage was done in the 75-63 win over Samford last Thursday, as she scored a career-high 28 points on 11-17 shooting from the floor and 4-6 shooting behind the arc. This came with five rebounds and four steals, a pair of assists and only one turnover. Her late scoring helped ETSU extend a two-point lead into double digits during the fourth quarter.
On Saturday, Folley helped ETSU complete its first road sweep of Samford and Mercer since rejoining the SoCon in 2015, while also leading the Bucs to their first double-digit win in Macon since 2012. She matched a team-high 12 points on 6-9 shooting, while grabbing four rebounds and three steals.
For the week, Folley rarely came off the court. The Lebanon, Ohio native finished 76 of a possible 80 minutes — including all but 52 seconds of the Samford game. She played over 37 minutes in the Mercer win.
Folley’s award marks the 56th time ETSU has been selected for SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week since the award began in 1988. Folley — now a two-time winner — is the first Buccaneer to win the award since 2019.
The Bucs will play their final two home games of the regular season this week inside Brooks Gym, including a Thursday night showdown with Wofford at 7 p.m. and Senior Day Saturday set for a 2 p.m. start.
