ABOUT THE BUCS
  • ETSU saw its six-game winning streak come to an end last Friday at Clemson, 73-50. With that setback, the Buccaneers move to 10-4 on the season.
  • The Buccaneers' top player against the Tigers was Nevaeh Brown. Brown netted a team-high 20 points in the contest. It was Brown's third 20-plus point outing of the season, which is tied for the second-most among SoCon players this season. Only Wofford's Rachel Rose has had more 20-plus point performances than Brown with seven.
  • Another bright spot for ETSU in its matchup vs. Clemson was its shooting from beyond the arc. The Bucs matched a season-high with eight made 3-pointers against the Tigers. ETSU also drained eight threes against Charleston Southern and UNC Asheville earlier this month.
  • Like most teams, ETSU has played much better on its home court. The Bucs are 6-1 at home this season compared to a 4-3 mark in neutral/road games. ETSU will face Coker on Saturday and will begin SoCon play with back-to-back home games (Samford and Mercer).
  • Saturday will mark the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Bucs. If ETSU comes away with the victory against the Cobras, the 11 non-league wins will be tied for the second-most in program history with the 1983-84 team.
  • Even with the loss to Clemson, the Buccaneers have been one of the nation's best teams in December over the past two seasons. ETSU is 13-2 over the last two Decembers.
  • Saturday's game will be ETSU's final game of the 2023 calendar year. Overall, ETSU has gone 22-11 in 2023.
  • The Buccaneers continue to lead the SoCon in fewest fouls per game (13.9), scoring defense (53.3), and fewest turnovers per game (13.4). On a national level, those marks rank 29th, 22nd and 36th, respectively.
  • Saturdays have been good to the Bucs over the past two seasons. Since Coach Mock began her tenure in Johnson City, ETSU is 9-3 when playing on a Saturday. In 2023-24, ETSU won its lone Saturday game (51-43) against Lafayette in mid-November.
  • Defense continues to be a key for the Buccaneers. ETSU held each opponent during its six-game winning streak to 52 points or fewer during that stretch. The Bucs are a perfect 10-0 this season when they hold opposing teams to under 60 points.
  • Breanne Beatty scored six points at Clemson last Friday. She needs just 13 points to reach 1,000 points in collegiate career.
ABOUT COKER
  • Coker enters Saturday's game with ETSU sporting an 8-3 record. The Cobras have nearly matched their win total from last season (11) already in 2023-24.
  • A player to watch for the Cobras is Kamari Thompson. Thompson, who has totaled six double-doubles this season, leads Division II women's basketball averaging 5.5 offensive rebounds per game. Overall, Thompson is averaging 11.3 rebounds per game.
  • As a team, the Cobras are averaging 76.7 points per game, which ranks 18th in Division II. Coker has four players averaging 10 points per game or better in Dasia Lambert (14.4), Mya Wasswa (13.9), Thompson (11.9) and Dominique Rodriguez (10.0).
  • Saturday's game will be the first ever meeting between ETSU and Coker. The Cobras are a member of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). ETSU is 35-13 all-time against the current members of the SAC.
UP NEXT
ETSU's next game will be on January 11 when it opens up SoCon play against Samford. Tip-off for that game is set for 7 p.m. at Brooks Gym.
