Seymour, Peterson combine for 50 points
LOGAN, Utah (Dec. 22, 2023) –
Jaden Seymour poured in a career-high 30 points and
Quimari Peterson added 20, but the rest of the Buccaneers were held in check, as ETSU had its four-game win streak snapped following an 80-65 loss at Utah State on Friday night inside Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Foul trouble and free throw shooting limited the Bucs in Logan. The Blue & Gold were whistled for 27 fouls, while Braden Ilic and Jadyn Parker both fouled out. Ebby Asamoah, Jaden Seymour and Quimari Peterson each finished with four. The game saw 51 total fouls as the Aggies committed 24.
- The Bucs couldn't take advantage of their trips to the charity stripe as ETSU missed 14 free throws (nine in the first half) and shot 60 percent at the line (21-35). Utah State wasn't much better as they finished the night going 24-for-36.
- Overall, ETSU shot 33 percent from the field (20-60) and 16 percent from beyond the arc (4-25), while Utah State finished with a 46 percent clip from the floor (25-54). The Aggies also struggled from beyond the arc as they went 6-of-18.
- The Bucs surrendered 48 second-half points as Utah State shot 54 percent from the field (14-26) and went 4-of-8 from three-point range.
- The Blue & Gold were plus-3 on the boards, 43-40, but ETSU only turned 14 offensive rebounds into nine second-chance points.
- ETSU had its four-game win streak snapped as the Bucs dropped to 7-5 on the season, while Utah State improved to 12-1.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Seymour and Peterson combined for 50 points and went 16-of-36 from the field, while the rest of the Bucs resulted in 10 points on 4-of-24 shooting.
- Seymour – who scored the first 11 points for the Blue & Gold – went 10-of-19 from the floor and knocked down three triples. Seymour just missed a double-double as he grabbed nine rebounds.
- To go with his 20 points, Peterson added four rebounds and four assists.
- Utah State had four players score in double figures with Darius Brown II leading the team with 19 points.
GAME SUMMARY
ETSU controlled the opening 10 minutes of the game thanks to Seymour's hot start as the Bucs led 17-12 at the 9:58 mark of the first half.
However, the Aggies rattled off 11 straight points over the next five-plus minutes to go up six, 23-17, with 4:38 left before halftime. The Bucs were able to pull within one at 23-22 but Utah State took a five-point lead into intermission, 32-27.
The fouls then mounted up for the Bucs in the early stages of the second half as Utah State was in the bonus at the 15:30 mark of the stanza.
ETSU was once again able to inch within a point in the early going of the frame, but the Bucs couldn't get into any rhythm due to the foul count.
With ETSU down 36-35, the Aggies used a 14-5 run to open a 10-point lead, 50-40, with 13:06 remaining in the contest. The closest the Bucs would get was seven, 50-43, before the Aggies pulled away to secure the win.

ETSU wraps up non-conference play next Friday, Dec. 29 when the Bucs play at East Carolina. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Greenville, N.C.
