Four Bucs earn Freshman All-American honors
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 15, 2023) – The postseason awards keep coming in for ETSU junior defensive back
Sheldon Arnold II. On Friday, Arnold was named All-American by Phil Steele, while four Bucs earned freshman All-American honors.
Arnold, who was named All-American by FCS Football Central on Monday, is coming off a banner season in the Blue & Gold. The Buccaneer defensive back totaled 87 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and scored on a 99-yard return off a blocked field goal in ETSU's season-ending win over The Citadel.
Arnold started all 11 games this past season for the Bucs and ended the regular season ranked third among FCS players in fumble recoveries, tied for seventh in total interceptions and 14th in interceptions per game (0.4). The Loganville, Ga. native also had one pick-6 on the season when he opened the game with a 39-yard touchdown return in the win over Wofford.
In addition to Arnold, four Buccaneer freshman landed spots on the Phil Steele Freshman All-American Teams. Defensive back
Jayvon Henderson was placed on the second team, offensive lineman
Miada Jones and linebacker
Ray Coney earned spots on the third team and linebacker
Dre Delinois earned fourth team honors.
