ETSU set to host The Citadel in season finale

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 17, 2023) – The ETSU football team wraps up the 2023 season on Saturday when the Buccaneers host The Citadel at 1 p.m. at Bank of Tennessee Field at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium.

HONORING OUR SENIORS 
ETSU will honor 23 seniors playing their final game in the Blue & Gold … The seniors participating in Senior Day festivities include Stephen Scott, Di'Andre Davis, Zach West, Will Huzzie, Nate Brackett, Ton'Quez Ball, Malik Hall, Noah West, Jawan Martin, Trace Kelley, Deven Brantley, Trevor Thompson, Eli Mitchell, Jackson Riley, Joshua Kimmons, Will Flowers, Zach Teter, Jaiden Abbott-Miles, Nolan Wishon, Tim Stayskal, Jaylen Frierson, Quinn Caballero and Max Evans
 
REMEMBERING CARL TORBUSH 
Last week, our university community lost a beloved member who left an indelible mark on our campus, region, and hearts as Carl Torbush passed away … For the second straight week, the team will honor Coach Torbush by wearing "CT" stickers on their helmets … Torbush was named ETSU's head coach on June 21, 2013 and retired on Dec. 8, 2017 as built the Buccaneer football program when it was restarted in 2015 … Torbush's first signing class was announced on Feb. 5, 2014, while the Bucs played their first game against Kennesaw State on Sept. 3, 2015 … The Bucs got their first win in the Torbush era against Warner on Oct. 31, 2015, 42-9 … ETSU opened the 2016 season with the thrilling 20-17 win at Kennesaw State on Sept. 3 and followed that up with the 34-31 win over Western Carolina at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 17 … ETSU ended the 2016 season with the 15-14 win over No. 18 Samford on Nov. 19 … He was the leader in ETSU's first game played at Greene Stadium where the Bucs opened with a 31-10 victory over Limestone on Sept. 2, 2017 … Torbush began coaching in 1975 as a graduate assistant at Baylor and served as head coach at North Carolina from 1997-2000 and at Louisiana Tech in 1987 … In addition, Torbush served as defensive coordinator at North Carolina (1988-97), Ole Miss (1983-86), Alabama (2001-02), Texas A&M (2003-05), Mississippi State (2009) and Kansas (2010-11 … Torbush won 31 games as a head coach (11 at ETSU) and was 2-0 in Bowl Games – 1997 Gator Bowl and 1998 Las Vegas Bowl … Torbush was also the head baseball coach at Southeastern Louisiana from 1977-79 where he won 75 games … Torbush graduated from Carson-Newman where he played football and baseball and later served as the associate head football coach from 2006-08.
 
ETSU'S STOUT SCHEDULE 
ETSU has played the fifth toughest schedule among FCS teams this season … The Bucs have played 10 games this season with the opposition generating a .576-win percentage (53-39) … ETSU has played four teams who are currently ranked in the Top-25 of the FCS – No. 2 Furman, No. 12 Austin Peay, No. 16 Chattanooga, No. 18 Western Carolina and No. 24 Mercer … Those who have played tougher schedules in the FCS this season are South Dakota State (.692), South Dakota (.622), Youngstown State (.600) and Columbia (.587). 
 
BUCS ON THIS DATE   
Today marks the eighth all-time game for the Bucs on this date … ETSU is 4-3-time on Nov. 18 … The last time the Bucs played on Nov. 18 was in 2017 when ETSU lost 10-3 at Chattanooga … The Bucs' last win on this date came in 2000 when ETSU took down Charleston Southern 55-7, while the Bucs also beat Western Carolina on this date in 1995 (35-10) … The Bucs also beat Austin Peay in 1967 (37-0) as well as taking down Newberry in 1961. 
 
FOSTER CARRYING THE LOAD 
ETSU redshirt sophomore running back Trey Foster has carried the load for the Buccaneers on offense over the last three games as he has totaled 310 rushing yards on 55 carries, while catching six passes for 47 yards … Foster is coming off a career day over VMI where he rushed for 172 yards on 28 carries and scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 32-yard run in the third quarter over the Keydets … Foster accounted for 217 yards of total offense against the Keydets as he also had five catches for 45 yards … Three weeks ago at Furman, Foster had 12 carries for then a career-high 80 yards … Foster has accounted for 357 of ETSU's 869 yards on offense during the last three weeks. 
 
BARRAGE OF BUCCANEER BLOCKED PUNTS
ETSU has blocked five punts this season with four of them coming in the last six weeks ... Linebacker Teddy Wilson has four of the Bucs' four blocks with Trey Foster getting in on the fun vs. Wofford ... Wilson got his first blocked punt in the home opener against Carson-Newman, which led to Ray Coney falling on the ball, resulting in a touchdown ... At Furman, Wilson had another blocked punt result in a score as Ton'Quez Ball recovered the loose ball and ran one in from 8-yards out for the touchdown … Wilson's four blocked punts rank second nationally, while ETSU's five punts are also tied with the most with New Hampshire. 
 
ARNOLD NAMED TO MIDSEASON ALL-AMERICAN WATCH LIST
ETSU junior safety Sheldon Arnold II was named to the Phil Steele/DraftScout Midseason All-American Watch List … Arnold was a third team selection … The Buccaneer has totaled 84 tackles, 9 TFLs, one sack, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles this season in 10 games … Arnold, who is two-time SoCon Defensive Player of the Week selection, had a pick-6 in the win over Wofford on Oct. 14. 
 
BUCS IN THE FCS RANKINGS 
Teddy Wilson ranks second in the country with his four blocked punts and Sheldon Arnold II ranks second with his three fumble recoveries and eighth in interceptions per game (0.4) … Arnold also ranks 26th in solo tackles (5.0) … Nate Brackett ranks 10th nationally in punting as he's averaging 43.5 yards per punt … Brackett's 70-yard punt against Carson-Newman is tied for the 13th-longest among FCS players this season … Chris Hope is 13th in solo tackles (5.4), while he and Sheldon Arnold II are 39th in total tackles (8.4). 
 
ABOUT THE CITADEL
  • The Citadel enters the final game of the 2023 season with an overall record of 0-10 and a SoCon mark of 0-7
  • The Bulldogs are coming off an 11-3 setback to Wofford last Saturday in Charleston 
  • The Citadel has been held to seven points or less in five of its 10 games 
  • The Bulldogs' last win came in the 2022 season finale when The Citadel won 26-22 at VMI 
  • The Citadel is being outscored 349 to 87 on the season … The Bulldogs are averaging 249.1 yards per game (124.6 passing/124.5 rushing), while scoring 10 touchdowns on the season … Defensively, the Bulldogs are allowing 437.8 yards per game (236.6 passing/201.2 rushing), while surrendering 46 touchdowns 
  • The Citadel has turned the ball over 19 times this season (11 lost fumbles, eight interceptions), while its defense has forced seven takeaways (six INTs, one fumble) 
  • Five different Bulldogs have attempted at least one pass this season with Graeson Underwood having the most attempts (176) … Underwood has completed 87 passes for 986 yards with four touchdowns and seven interceptions … Underwood also has 62 rushing attempts for 253 yards and two touchdowns
  • Cooper Wallace, who has missed the last two games, leads the team in rushing attempts (77), rushing yards (278) and longest run (35) … Johnny Crawford III and Underwood both have two rushing touchdowns … Crawford has 221 rushing yards on 67 carries
  • Tyler Cherry is the top target at wide receiver as he has a team-high 19 receptions for 174 yards, while Jay Graves-Billips also has 174 receiving yards with one touchdown … Wallace leads the Bulldogs with two touchdown receptions (12 catches for 172 yards) 
  • Defensively, Dominick Poole leads the team with two interceptions, while Carson Walter has a team-high 70 tackles and Thomas Wyatt leads the club with 4.5 tackles for loss … The Bulldogs have totaled eight sacks on the season with Chris Benton leading the way with two sacks 
  • Kicker Colby Kintner is 6-for-7 on field goal attempts with his lone miss coming from beyond 50 yards … His season long is 49 yards, while five of his 22 kickoffs have gone for touchbacks 
  • The Bulldogs are led by first-year head coach Maurice Drayton  
SERIES HISTORY 
  • Saturday marks the 32nd all-time meeting between the two programs with ETSU holding an 18-13 series lead 
  • The Bucs are 10-5 against the Bulldogs in games played in Johnson City 
  • The Citadel won last year's contest 20-17 in Charleston on a walk-off 39-yard field goal by Colby Kinter 
  • ETSU's last win in the series came in 2021 when the Bucs won 48-21 in Greene Stadium

BSN begins its pregame programming one hour and 30 minutes prior to kickoff with the 30-minute Tennessee Lottery Tailgate Show, followed by the Pregame Show presented by Lafayette Heat & Air, which will lead up to 30 minutes prior to kickoff. The Appalachian Orthopedic Countdown to Kickoff will then lead into the final moments before kickoff.     
 
The broadcast team of "Voice of the Bucs" Jay Sandos, analyst Matt Wilhjelm and sideline reporter Robert Harper will provide ETSU fans all the information they need to complement their game-day activities.
 
At halftime, the crew will have the Mr. Electric Halftime Show, while fans can tune into the Mullican Flooring Post Game Show for a full wrap up, with game statistics, players and coach interviews and other post-game information. 
 
Saturday's game will also be broadcast on ESPN+ with the team of Keith Brake (play-by-play) and Mark Hutsell (analyst) on the call.
