ETSU set to rekindle rivalry with Davidson on Friday night

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 16, 2023) – The ETSU men's basketball team is set to rekindle an old rivalry with Davidson when the Buccaneers host the Wildcats on Friday night inside Freedom Hall. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

  • ETSU returns home from a two-game road swing after playing at Elon and Butler 
  • The Bucs currently sit at 1-2 on the young season 
  • ETSU dropped both road contests as the Bucs fell in a hard-fought battle at Elon 79-76 last Thursday, while suffering an 81-47 setback to BIG EAST foe Butler on Monday 
  • Three Buccaneers are averaging double figures in scoring with Quimari Peterson leading the team at 16.0 points per game … Jaden Seymour (12.3 ppg/8.7 rpg) and Ebby Asamoah (10.7 ppg/4.0 rpg) are also averaging double figures in scoring 
  • As a team, ETSU is averaging 65.3 points per game and allowing 72.0
  • The Bucs lead the SoCon in blocked shots per game (6.3) 
  • The Bucs have made at least one three-pointer in 1,127 straight games … After Western Kentucky went 0-for-21 last Thursday night, the Bucs have the third-longest active streak in the country behind Duke and UNLV 
  • The 2023-24 Buccaneer roster features 15 players ...   • After losing three starters and eight players from last year's team, head coach Brooks Savage and his staff brought in 11 new guys for the 2023-24 season … Seven of the Bucs are transfers – Ebby Asamoah (Delaware), Karon Boyd (USC Aiken), DJ Hughes (Butler), Jadyn Parker (North Florida), Quimari Peterson (John A.   • Davidson is averaging 71.7 points per game and allowing 64.0
  • Six players are averaging at least 6.5 points per game with Bobby Durkin coming off the bench and posting 12.0 points per game

  • Tonight marks the 46th all-time meeting between the two programs with Davidson holding a 26-19 advantage 
  • This is the first meeting since Jan. 26, 2005 when Davidson won 63-62
  • ETSU has won three of the last four meetings and six of the last nine 
  • The Bucs are 10-10 against Davidson at home, while this marks the first time the Wildcats are coming to Johnson City since Jan. 21, 2004 when ETSU won 75-70 
  • The teams have combined for 32 SoCon regular season titles and 20 tournament crowns … ETSU has won nine regular season and eight tournament titles, compared to Davidson capturing 23 regular season and 12 tournament titles 
  • The first all-time meeting was played on Dec. 29, 1960 with ETSU winning, 83-71 at the Laurel Invitational

ETSU heads back on the road for four straight games beginning next Wednesday when the Bucs head to Ohio to take on Cleveland State in the opener of the Viking Invitational.
