ABOUT THE BUCS
- The Buccaneers sealed their first win of the 2023-24 campaign last Saturday as they downed Lafayette by a score of 51-43 at Brooks Gym. With that victory, ETSU improved to 1-1 on the young season.
- ETSU has a trio of players averaging 10.0 points per game or better this season. Kendall Folley leads the charge averaging 18.0 points per game. Folley has also totaled 11 rebounds, dished out six assists and logged five steals. Courtney Moore is not far behind averaging 15.0 points per game, while Nevaeh Brown checks in at 10.0 points per game.
- Folley (5th - .538) and Moore (7th - .522) both rank in the top the seven in field goal percentage among SoCon players. Chattanooga (Raven Thompson – 3rd - .563 & Jada Guinn – 4th - .556) is the only other team that has multiple players rank among the top seven.
- A strength for the Bucs in the season's first week has been ability to take care of the basketball. ETSU ranks fourth nationally averaging 9.5 turnovers per game. Only Colorado State (5.0), Villanova (6.0) and Rhode Island (7.0) are averaging fewer turnovers per game than the Bucs.
- Wednesday will mark the first morning game for the Bucs since December 13, 2021 when they took on Wake Forest in a game that began at 11 a.m. The Demon Deacons won that game by a score of 90-58.
- ETSU will look for its first road win of the season on Wednesday. In 2022-23, the Bucs went 9-3 in true road games. ETSU, which had a streak of six straight road wins last season, has gone a combined 15-7 in games played away from Johnson City since the start of the last season.
ABOUT RADFORD
- Radford is sporting a 2-1 record through the first week of the season. The Highlanders notched wins against Concord (77-53) and Western Carolina (67-49) in the season's first week but dropped a contest to Norfolk State (70-46).
- Prior to the start of the season, Radford was picked tied for second in the Preseason Big South Poll with ETSU's opponent on Sunday, Presbyterian. High Point was projected to win the Big South.
- A player to watch on Wednesday for the Highlanders is Ashlyn Traylor-Walker. A Preseason All-Big South selection, Traylor-Walker is averaging 16.3 points and 5.7 rebounds so far this season.
SERIES HISTORY
- The all-time series between ETSU and Radford is even, 11-11. Wednesday will mark the first matchup between these two programs since 2019.
- In the last matchup, Radford came away with a 67-43 win over ETSU.
- ETSU will be looking for its first win in Radford since 2002 when they headed back to Johnson City with a 72-60 victory.
- Coach Mock is no stranger to facing Radford as her teams at UNC Asheville matched up with the Highlanders 20 times over the years. Overall, the Bulldogs went 8-12 against Radford in Coach Mock's tenure. One of those eight victories was when Asheville won the 2017 Big South Tournament Championship against Radford by a score of 49-48. That year the Bulldogs became the first seventh seed to win the Big South tournament.
