JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 13, 2023) – The ETSU volleyball team will host the opening match of the 2023 Southern Conference Tournament on Tuesday night as the No. 8 seed when it hosts ninth-seeded UNC Greensboro at Brooks Gym. First serve between the Bucs and Spartans is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+

ABOUT THE BUCS

• ETSU dropped a pair of road matches on the road at The Citadel (3-1) and Wofford (3-2) last weekend. With the pair of losses, the Bucs concluded the regular season with an overall record of 5-22 overall and 5-11 in SoCon play.  
• Brianna Cantrell had a stellar final weekend of the regular season. The sophomore outside hitter totaled 35 kills (3.89 K/S) and attacked at a .389 clip against the Bulldogs and Terriers. Cantrell leads ETSU in kills this season with 286, which ranks eighth in the SoCon.
• Setter Malgorzata Andersohn posted two more double-doubles over the weekend in South Carolina. She has 17 double-doubles this season and leads ETSU in assists (660), digs (319) and aces (27).
• The Bucs will be making their 30^th appearance all-time in the Southern Conference tournament on Tuesday. ETSU is 21-24 all-time in the event and have won three SoCon Tournament titles with the last being in 2017.

ABOUT UNC GREENSBORO

• UNCG enters the postseason with an overall record of 1-26 and 0-16 in SoCon play. The Spartans will aim to snap a 19-match losing skid on Tuesday.
• Aylin Baran is the UNCG's top point scorer as she has totaled 294.5 points in 2023. 275 of those points were kills, which ranks among the top 10 in the SoCon.
• UNCG will be making its 20^th SoCon Tournament appearance. Overall, the Spartans are 9-17 in tournament play and are in search of its first win in the event since 2017.
• ETSU is 32-12 all-time against the Spartans. The Bucs swept the season series against UNCG this season and have won four straight matches in the series.

UP NEXT
