ETSU set to face Butler Monday night on CBS Sports Network

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 12, 2023) – The ETSU men's basketball team heads to Indianapolis to take on Butler inside historic Hinkle Fieldhouse on Monday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

ABOUT THE BUCS
  • ETSU sits 1-1 through its first two games of the season 
  • The Bucs opened the season last Monday with a 73-56 win over King before suffering a hard-fought 79-76 setback at Elon on Thursday 
  • ETSU trailed by 22 points with 10 minutes left at Elon and pulled within two in the final minute; however, the Bucs couldn't complete the comeback 
  • Newcomer Quimari Peterson led the Blue & Gold on Thursday night as he poured in a game-high 29 points, while adding six rebounds, four assists and steals 
  • Peterson is the SoCon leader in scoring as he's averaging 22.0 points per game 
  • Jaden Seymour, who's averaging 16 points and 10.5 rebounds on the young season, netted a career-high 21 points Thursday night at Elon 
  • Seymour is one of 41 Division I players who have played at least two games this season to be averaging a double-double in scoring and rebounding 
  • Seymour ranks ninth in the SoCon in scoring and fourth in rebounding 
  • ETSU leads the SoCon in turnover margin +7.0, while ranking second in blocked shots (7.0) and third in free throw shooting (.735) 
  • ETSU looks to give the SoCon another key non-conference win as Chattanooga won at Louisville on Friday night and Western Carolina took down Notre Dame on Saturday 
  • The Bucs have made at least one three-pointer in 1,126 straight games … After Western Kentucky went 0-for-21 on Thursday night, the Bucs have the third-longest active streak in the country behind Duke and UNLV 
  • The 2023-24 Buccaneer roster features 15 players ... ETSU's roster consists of one graduate player, two redshirt juniors, four juniors, one redshirt sophomore, three sophomores and four freshmen … Three players hail from North Carolina and Indiana, and one each from Tennessee, Iowa, West Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Kentucky, Virginia and Maryland
  • The Bucs return four players from last year's roster who logged minutes, including starters Jaden Seymour and Allen Strothers, along with Justice Smith and Braden Ilic … Overall, ETSU only returns 29 percent of its scoring, 37 percent of its rebounding and 38 percent of its minutes played in 2022-23 … Seymour totaled 253 points, 218 rebounds and 1,793 minutes, Smith posted 237 points, 111 rebounds and 683 minutes, while Allen Strothers recorded 109 points, 51 rebounds and 776 minutes and Braden Ilic added for 46 points, 33 rebounds and 199 minutes
  • After losing three starters and eight players from last year's team, head coach Brooks Savage and his staff brought in 11 new guys for the 2023-24 season … Seven of the Bucs are transfers – Ebby Asamoah (Delaware), Karon Boyd (USC Aiken), DJ Hughes (Butler), Jadyn Parker (North Florida), Quimari Peterson (John A. Logan), Tyler Rice (William & Mary) and Timmy Fasehun (Gulf Coast State College) … Four Bucs are true freshmen – Maki Johnson (Huntington Prep), Gabe Sisk (Ballard HS), Jaxson Jones (The Skill Factory) and David Meriwether (Lawrence North HS)
  • ETSU will have at least three games on national television this season … When the Bucs travel to Indianapolis to take on Butler on Monday, Nov. 13, the game will be televised on CBS Sports Network … ETSU's second game on CBSSN will be on Feb. 10 when the Bucs host reigning conference champion Furman … The Bucs' home game with in-state rival Chattanooga on Sunday, Jan. 21 will also be broadcast live on ESPN2 or ESPNU … Meanwhile, the four SoCon quarterfinal games will also be carried on Nexstar on March 4, while the two semifinal games on March 5 will be broadcast either on ESPN2/ESPNU and the championship game on March will be carried on ESPN 
ABOUT BUTLER
  • Butler is 2-0 after picking up wins over Eastern Michigan and Southeast Missouri State
  • The Bulldogs are averaging 92.5 points per game and have a +37.0-scoring margin on the season 
  • Butler is shooting 53 percent from the field, while holding opponents to a 31 percent clip and 55.5 points 
  • The Bulldogs have received balanced scoring through their first two games with four players averaging at least 13 points per contest … Pierre Brooks II and Jahmyl Telfort are both posting 15 points, while Posh Alexander is averaging 14 points and DJ Davis is at 13 points per game 
  • Butler's top five leading scorers are all transfers as Brooks played at Michigan State, Telfort comes from Northeastern where he ranked fifth in scoring last year in the CAA, Alexander led the BIG EAST in steals last season at St. John's, Davis was a first team all-Big West selection in 2022-23 at UC Irvine and Andre Screen comes from Bucknell where he ranked second in the Patriot League in blocks and field goals   
SERIES HISTORY 
  • Monday marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools 
  • The last time ETSU played a BIG EAST team was on Nov. 11, 2018 when the Bucs lost 75-69 at Creighton 
  • This marks the Bucs' first trip to the Hoosier State since Nov. 14, 2014 when ETSU opened the season at Valparaiso 
  • The last time ETSU played a team from Indiana was Fort Wayne on Nov. 25, 2017 … The Bucs won 83-73
