JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct 30, 2023) – ETSU men's basketball opened on a 25-3 run and ended with a 50-point win, as the Buccaneers defeated UVA Wise 105-55 in an exhibition game Monday night inside Freedom Hall.
 
The Bucs saw the Cavaliers miss their first 18 shots as ETSU held UVA Wise to 22 percent shooting for the contest (14-64). The Blue & Gold made 39 field goals – 18 from long distance – and shot 53 percent on the night.
 
Nine different Bucs made at least one triple with Jaden Seymour pacing the group at 17 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Seymour also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots. 
 
Newcomer Karon Boyd added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Justice Smith poured in 15 points and dished out six of ETSU's 27 assists. 
 
The Bucs led 33-5 before the Cavaliers made their first field goal at the 8:41 mark of the first half and took a 54-19 lead into halftime. 
 
ETSU scored 51 second-half points and led by as many as 53 when Braden Illic knocked down his third and final three-pointer, making it 102-49 with just over a minute remaining. 
 
Thirteen Bucs scored points with eight netting at least eight points. 
 
ETSU opens its regular season next Monday night when the Bucs host King at 7 p.m. inside Freedom Hall.
