Record 640-minute shutout streak ended in 1-0 loss
MACON, Ga. (Oct. 1, 2023) - For years, Mercer has had ETSU's number on the soccer field. In a season where records have fallen and others are threatened, some old hurdles are still yet to be cleared.
ETSU fell 1-0 to Mercer on Sunday afternoon in Macon. It is Mercer's 14th win in 24 meetings with ETSU, and the Bucs are 0-3-3 in the last six meetings with the Bears.
Mercer scored the only goal of the match in the 52nd minute when Keelin Pray scored her first goal of the year and third of her career, ending ETSU's program record shutout streak at 640 minutes.
The Bucs were outshot 12-6, and the Bears had seven shots on goal to two for ETSU. Ashton Blair (Knoxville, Tenn.) made seven saves on eight shots, her most saves and shots faced since August 24 at Tennessee.
With the loss, ETSU dropped to 6-2-4 overall and 2-1-1 in SoCon play. This snapped the Bucs' six-match unbeaten streak. Mercer improved to 7-2-5 overall and 2-1-1 in conference action.
ETSU goes back on the road Thursday afternoon for a 3 p.m. kick at The Citadel.
