ETSU head coach Joe Pennucci added a familiar face to his coaching staff on January 3, 2023 as former standout pitcher Micah Kaczor was announced to the staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

Kaczor served as ETSU’s Friday ace in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, winning awards at both the conference and national level while finishing his Buccaneer career with a 12-6 record and a 3.42 ERA. Kaczor went on to a three-year career with the Colorado Rockies organization, competing as high as the Double-A level.

“We welcome Micah back to the program with open arms,” said Pennucci, who coached Kaczor in his first two seasons at the helm. “His SoCon and professional experience will be a nice addition. Micah will offer experience and prospective to our players.”

As a player, Kaczor came to ETSU his junior season after two years at Western Kentucky. He wasted no time making an impact, earning Collegiate Baseball National Pitcher of the Week honors in his ETSU debut. Kaczor finished his senior year with a 2.13 ERA in over 100 innings pitched, earning first team all-conference. He also had 85 strikeouts in 16 appearances.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Pennucci’s staff and learn from him, as well as Coach Jamie Pinzino and Coach Chad Marshall,” said Kaczor at the time of hire. “It has been a dream of mine to coach at my alma mater ever since I played here. I am excited to get to work with this coaching staff, the group of guys that we have and the new ones coming in. It is a fun and exciting time to be at ETSU and I am appreciative for the chance to be a part of it.”

Kaczor is lauded in the ETSU record books, including the third-lowest career ERA in school history (3.42) and the lowest single-season ERA since 1981 (2.13) during the 2019 season.

In three years with the Colorado Rockies organization, Kaczor finished with a 7-6 record and a 4.23 ERA. He won his lone decision at the AA level with the Hartford Yard Goats and was briefly promoted to Triple-A for assignment with the Albuquerque Isotopes.

Kaczor was born in Logan, Utah and finished his high school career at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn. His father, Nate Kaczor, is currently in his 15th season as an NFL coach and serves as the Special Teams Coordinator for the Washington Commanders.

Micah and his wife, Alexis, met at ETSU and have been married since January 2021. Both are graduates of ETSU.
