No. 68 Men’s Tennis opens SoCon slate against UNC Greensboro and Mercer

Bucs look to keep rolling against the Spartans and Bears

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 10, 2026) – The No. 68 ETSU men's tennis team will open its Southern Conference (SoCon) schedule this week with home matches against UNC Greensboro on Wednesday and Mercer on Friday. Wednesday's match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. first serve, while Friday's is set to begin at 10 a.m.

ETSU has been one of the hottest teams in the nation recently with 10 consecutive wins. The Bucs, who are 10-3 overall, checked in at No. 68 in the latest ITA National Poll. In its last match, ETSU shut out Tennessee Tech, 4-0. Dating back to 2023, the Bucs have won 13 consecutive home matches. Furthermore, ETSU has not dropped a SoCon match at home since rejoining the league in 2015.

UNC Greensboro will come to Johnson City with a record of 2-10 (1-2 SoCon). The Spartans own wins this spring over The Citadel and Belmont Abbey by identical 5-2 scores. UNCG has been close to a few more victories with a trio of 4-3 losses to North Carolina Central, James Madison, and Furman.

Mercer, meanwhile, will get its SoCon schedule started with Friday's match in Johnson City. So far in non-conference play, the Bears are 4-7. Two of those victories were against non-Division I foes, while their two other wins came against Georgia State and North Florida with identical 4-3 final tallies.

ETSU has historically held the edge against both UNCG and Mercer. The Bucs are 15-0 against the Spartans since 2003 and 20-2 against the Bears since 2006. UNCG's last win in the series came in 2001, while Mercer edged out the Bucs last year, 4-3, in Macon.
