JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 24, 2026) – The ETSU men's tennis team will wrap up February and begin March with a pair of home matches this week against UNC Asheville and Wednesday and No. 45 Charlotte on Sunday. Wednesday's match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. first serve inside the ETSU mini dome, while Sunday's tilt is set to be played outdoors at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex beginning at Noon.
The Bucs are one of the hottest teams in the country right now with a seven-match winning streak. During this streak, ETSU has defeated Eastern Kentucky, Tusculum, DePaul, VCU, Presbyterian, UAB, and Belmont. Furthermore, the Bucs have been very tough to beat in Johnson City. ETSU has won 11 consecutive home matches dating back to February 29, 2024.
UNC Asheville currently is 3-2 in 2026. All three of Asheville's victories have been against Division II programs in King, Mars Hill, and Young Harris. The Bulldogs have been especially good in singles action as they collectively have a record of 20-7 (.741 winning percentage).
Charlotte has won six of its seven matches this spring. Thanks to that stellar start, the 49ers are No. 45 in the national ITA poll. Charlotte's lone loss this season was to No. 16 Clemson, 5-2, on February 8. Massimo Pizzigoni leads the charge for the 49ers with 10 singles victories in 2026.
ETSU has met Asheville once in each of the past five years with the Bucs winning four of the five matchups. As for the series against Charlotte, ETSU has won eight of the previous 11 matches with the last coming in 2021. Despite not having the edge in the all-time series, Charlotte has won the last two matches between these two programs.
