Women's Triathlon opens 2025 campaign with Buccaneer Collegiate Cup

The squad hosts their annual season-opening race on Friday night

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The ETSU women's triathlon team is set to open the 2025 campaign with the Buccaneer Collegiate Cup on Friday evening.  The event marks the fourth consecutive season ETSU has hosted a season-opening race.

At the conclusion of the race, senior Delaney Hammill will be honored for her contributions to the program over the last four years.  Maddie Gagnon, a transfer, and Bonita Gray, an addition from the track & field and cross country program will also be honored for their contributions over the course of their collegiate careers before joining the ETSU triathlon program.

Notes:
  • ETSU welcomes Navy, Warren Wilson, King, Lenoir-Rhyne and Queens, who finished third overall at nationals in the 2024 season.
  • The swim will be held inside the Basler Center for Physical Activity (CPA), while the run will start along South Dossett Drive where the runners will turn left on the walking path alongside Jack Vest Drive and loop around the soccer practice fields, taking them near the tennis courts, past Greene Stadium and back down before retracing the route back to the CPA.
ABOUT THE SQUAD
  • East Tennessee State triathlon enters its 10th season in the 2025 schedule.
  • Head coach Allie Nicosia enters her sixth season as the leader of the program.
  • Nicosia returned seven from the 2024 roster and added two newcomers to complete the 2025 roster.  The squad is comprised of three seniors, one junior, four sophomores and one freshman.
  • Delaney Hammill was selected to represent the squad as team captain.
  • Julia Visgueiro captured the bronze at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games, representing Paraguay, and captured the silver at the 2025 U23 South Americas Championship.  She was also tabbed to the 2024 CTCA All-Region team following the 2024 season.
  • The program finished third overall at the NCAA Regional meet and eighth overall at the NCAA Championships in 2024.
  • Notable newcomers are Andie Psilopoulos, a transfer from Duquesne, Maddie Gagnon, a tranfer from Wingate, and Ninon Lapierre, a freshman from France.
