JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — East Tennessee State University men's golfer
Gavin Tiernan has been selected to represent Great Britain & Ireland in the 50th Walker Cup, as announced by The R&A on Monday.
Tiernan, a native of Dublin, Ireland, earns the prestigious honor following a breakout summer highlighted by a runner-up finish at The Amateur Championship at Royal St. George's. The ETSU freshman battled through pre-qualifying to reach the 36-hole final, where he narrowly fell to American Ethan Fang.
Tiernan becomes the latest in a long line of Buccaneer golfers to gain international recognition, helping to further solidify ETSU's status as one of the top collegiate programs in the country. The 50th Walker Cup will be held September 6–7 at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, California.
