AWENDAW, S.C. (Mar. 25, 2025) -
All the tumblers fell into place for Yannick Malik on Tuesday and unlocked something special to finish The Hootie at Bulls Bay.
The junior from Germany shot a bogey-free, 7-under par 65 to vault both himself and ETSU men's golf to a ninth-place finish.
Ben Carberry also went bogey-free with a 68 as the Bucs jumped into the top 10 with a 13-under 275 in the third and final round.
Teeing off on the back nine, Malik birdied three of his first five holes, then birdied the par-4 18th and 1st, as well as the 6th and the 9th to complete his lowest round as a Buccaneer, tied with Kristian Bressum's 65 at the Ka'anapali Classic in November for ETSU's lowest round of the 2024-25 season, and tied for the third-lowest round of the day at Bulls Bay. Malik finished the tournament 8-under, good for ninth, his best finish this season and his second top ten.
Carberry was one-under at the turn, but stacked birdies at the 1st, 2nd, and 4th to match his season-low 68 at the Ka'anapali Classic, two shots off his career-best 66 at the Puerto Rico Classic on February 13, 2022. Carberry finished 27th overall at 3-under par, his second best finish this season.
Gavin Tiernan shot a 2-under par 70 on the final day to finish 2-under for the tournament in 35th. Bressum was even-par in the final round to finish the tournament 5-over, and Joshua Pritchett shot a 1-over 73 to finish 1-over for the week. Ben Oberholzer shot a 5-over 77 on the final day to finish the tournament 10-over par.
The Bucs take a week off from competition before returning to the course April 5 at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, their final event before the 2025 SoCon Championship.
