Beach, Cook post podium finishes at Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational

Beach wins silver in 5000m, Cook finishes second in 400m

LYNCHBURG, Va. (Feb. 14, 2025) – A pair of Buccaneers posted podium finishes in Friday's opener of the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, which got underway at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
 
Sophie Beach finished second in the Open section of the 5000m and Micailah Cook – the reigning Southern Conference Track Athlete of the Week winner – won silver in the 400m. Beach set a personal best with a time of 17:39.15, while Cook also set a PR with a time of 56.73.
 
In the 5000m Invite portion of the race, Bonita Gray finished 14th with a time of 17:56.52. In the 3000m Open section, Deena Lutdke finished fourth with a personal best time 10:04.99.
 
In the field events, Allison Shingleton set a personal best in the pole vault by finishing tied for sixth with a mark of 3.60m.
