JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 10, 2025) – A little over month since taking the reins of the ETSU football team, Head Coach
Will Healy has finalized his coaching staff entering his first season leading the Bucs in 2025. In addition to Healy, Offensive Coordinator
Cam Aiken and Defensive Coordinator
Chad Staggs, ETSU will have nine new coaches on staff this fall.
The newest additions to Healy's coaching staff are
Brian Blackmon (Assistant Head Coach/Tight Ends Coach),
Patrick Covington (Offensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator),
Travis Cunningham (Linebackers),
Jamere Hogue (Defensive Line Coach),
Michael Mosah (Cornerbacks Coach),
Randall McCray (Special Teams Coordinator/Safeties Coach). Furthermore,
Jay Graham (Running Backs Coach) and
Isaac Vance (Wide Receivers Coach) will return from the previous staff with new roles.
"I am beyond excited about the coaches we were able to hire," said Healy. "I think it says a lot about what people think about this place that this type of staff would be willing to come here. They all are not only incredible coaches but also wonderful people with a ton of experience. I wanted to take my time in selecting the right people and we were very fortunate that some of the best of the best said yes. I am very lucky to surround myself with great people that are invested in making this place all in can be and help us win championships."
Brian Blackmon – Assistant Head Coach/Tight Ends Coach
Blackmon comes to ETSU as the program's new Assistant Head Coach/Tight Ends Coach after spending the last four seasons at UCF. With his guidance, multiple players earned All-Big 12 or All-American Conference honors during his time in Orlando. Prior to the move to UCF, Blackmon spent three seasons at Troy where he helped the Trojans become one of the top special team units each season. He also was at Auburn for one season (2017) under Gus Malzahn where he helped the Tigers tally a pair of victories over No. 1 teams in the country, Georgia and Alabama. Blackmon began his coaching career at Opelika High School. Blackmon was at Opelika for over 20 years, and he spent the last eight seasons as the school's Athletic Director in addition to his coaching duties.
Patrick Covington – Offensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator
Covington has over a decade of coaching experience at the Division I level. Covington comes to Johnson City after spending the past two seasons as the Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach at fellow SoCon school, The Citadel. He also spent three seasons as the Offensive Coordinator at Lamar after spending 10 seasons coaching the offensive line at Coastal Carolina. Prior to 2010, Covington also spent three seasons at Air Force where he helped the Falcons lead the league in rushing each season. Covington is a 2006 graduate of Furman where he was a three-year starter and garnered multiple All-American honors.
Travis Cunningham – Linebackers Coach
Cunningham brings over two decades' worth of coaching experience to Johnson City. A graduate of Gardner-Webb, Cunningham spent the last two seasons coaching the linebacking corps at Appalachian State. Prior to his stay in Boone, Cunningham also worked on defensive staffs at Western Kentucky, Georgia Southern and his alma mater Gardner-Webb. He spent 17 seasons on the coaching staff at Gardner-Webb and coached 21 all-conference players and six garnered postseason All-American honors.
Jamere Hogue – Defensive Line Coach
Hogue comes to Johnson City after spending the last two seasons as the defensive line coach at McNeese State. A native of nearby Morristown, Tennessee, Hogue also spent two seasons on the staff at Gardner-Webb (2022-23) where he helped their defensive unit lead the Big South in five different categories and pick up a FCS playoff win over Eastern Kentucky. His other coaching stops include nearby Tusculum and Brevard. He is a graduate of Tennessee Tech (2012) and helped the Golden Eagles win the 2011 OVC Championship.
Randall McCray – Special Teams Coordinator/Safeties Coach
McCray brings over 30 years of coaching experience with him to Johnson City, which includes stops at power conference schools Clemson, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, South Carolina along with a two-year stint in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals, McCray's last position in collegiate coaching was as the defensive coordinator of Northern Iowa. His son Matt is also on staff for the Bucs as a Defensive Quality Control Assistant.
Michael Mosah – Cornerbacks Coach
Mosah joins the Bucs after stops as a defensive graduate assistant at UCF and ECU. Mosah is a graduate of nearby Tusculum where he was a standout linebacker. A native of Memphis, Tennessee earned his degree in Sports Management from Tusculum in 2017.
