LOUDON, Tenn. (Sept. 6, 2024) – The ETSU men's golf team opened the 2024 fall season on Friday as the Buccaneers completed first round play at the Visit Knoxville Intercollegiate, hosted at Tennessee National Golf Club.
The Bucs were led by newcomer and St. Mary's transfer
Kristian Bressum and redshirt sophomore
Joshua Pritchett on day one. Bressum, who recorded five birdies on the day, carded an even-par 70 and sits tied for 27th. Bressum was sitting five-under through his first 12 holes but played the last six at five-over. Pritchett, one of the two returning Buccaneers from last year's roster, is tied for 36th at 1-over-par 71.
ETSU's other two countable scores came from freshman
Charl Barnard (T49, +2) and freshman
Gavin Tiernan (T88, +8).
Individually, South Florida's Jake Peacock holds a one-shot lead after 18 holes of competition. Peacock fired a 6-under 64 and leads a group of three golfers by one shot.
As a team, ETSU sits in 14th-place at 11-over-par 291.
The team leaderboard is stacked with teams from the Southeastern Conference as LSU leads the 16-team field at 12-under-par 268, while No. 13 Ole Miss is one shot back at 11-under-par 269. South Carolina is in third at 9-under-par 271, while host and No. 7 Tennessee and Charlotte are tied for fourth at 3-under-par 277.
ETSU tees off Saturday's second round starting at 11:10 a.m. The Bucs are grouped with Indiana and College of Charleston.
