ETSU Women’s Triathlon Ranked Eighth in Preseason Coaches’ Poll

Bucs open season Friday with third annual ETSU Aquathlon

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 28, 2024) – As ETSU women's triathlon is set to open its 2024 season on Friday, the Buccaneers were ranked eighth in the Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association (CTCA) Preseason Poll, which was released by the organization earlier this week.

The Bucs, who finished seventh at the 2023 Collegiate National Championships, return six student-athletes from last year's team. To go with the six returners, head coach Allie Nicosia brought in four newcomers to make up the 2024 Buccaneer roster.

Abby Church and Sarah Plant are ETSU's top returning athletes from last year's National Championship as they finished 24th and 25th, respectively, in Tempe, Ariz. Church finished with a time of 1:05.58.5 and Plant was right behind in 1:05.59.3.

Arizona State, last year's national champion, was picked first in the preseason poll. The Sun Devils were followed by Arizona, Queens, Denver, TCU, San Francisco and South Dakota. Duquesne and Navy completed the preseason top-10.

The rankings are based off CTCA Coaches voting in their respective Division.

The Bucs are gearing up for the third annual ETSU Aquathlon, which is set for Friday night at 5 p.m. The swim will be held at the Basler Center for Physical Activity (CPA) and the run will take place around ETSU's soccer and tennis courts.
