Triathlon sends eight to Nationals

The Bucs are set to close the 2025-26 at the NCAA Championships in Tempe, Ariz.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – East Tennesee State women's triathlon is set to compete for the NCAA National Championship on Saturday afternoon in Tempe, Ariz. at 12:30 p.m. ET.

NOTABLE OUTINGS
  • Taylor Walker (1:05:59.0, 16th), Andie Psilopoulos (1:06:17.3, 19th) and Maddie Gagnon (1:06:46.7, 22nd) each finished top-25 in the East Region, with Gagnon and Walker recording personal-bests in the 5k.
  • Bonita Gray captured the B Wave win at the East Regional Qualifier with a result of 1:13:34.7 (14:17 swim, 38:09 bike, 18:44 run).
  • Taylor Walker was the top finisher for the Bucs at the Robious Landing Collegiate Cup with a sixth-place finish in 57:18.82 (750m swim, 20km bike, 5k run) for her best collegiate finish and a personal-best in the 5k by 34 seconds.
  • Julia Visgueiro captured the individual title at the Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon in 57:31.11 ((8:48 swim, 30:05 bike, 17:41 run), an improvement of 51 seconds from her 2024 outing.
  • Taylor Walker placed eighth overall at the Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon with a time of 58:32.80 (9:31 swim, 29:24 bike, 18:40 run) and improved her 5k time by 34 seconds
  • Julia Visgueiro finished second overall in the 2025 Buccaneer Collegiate Cup, completing the 400yd swim, a 4.78 mile bike and a 1.55 mile run in 26:40.68.  The team finished third out of six participating programs.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • East Tennessee State triathlon enters its 10th season in the 2025 schedule.
  • Notable newcomers are Andie Psilopoulos, a transfer from Duquesne, Maddie Gagnon, a transfer from Wingate, and Ninon Lapierre, a freshman from France.
  • The program finished third overall at the NCAA Regional meet and eighth overall at the NCAA Championships in 2024.
  • Julia Visgueiro captured the bronze at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games, representing Paraguay, and captured the silver at the 2025 U23 South Americas Championship.  She was also tabbed to the 2024 CTCA All-Region team following the 2024 season.
  • Delaney Hammill was selected to represent the squad as team captain.
  • Nicosia returned seven from the 2024 roster and added two newcomers to complete the 2025 roster.  The squad is comprised of three seniors, one junior, four sophomores and one freshman.
  • Head coach Allie Nicosia enters her sixth season as the leader of the program.
