O’Callaghan announces signing of Jake Potter

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 27, 2024) – East Tennessee State University men's golf head coach Aaron O'Callaghan announced on Thursday the signing of Jake Potter to the Buccaneers' 2024-25 roster.

Potter, a native of Kent, England, comes to ETSU as a true freshman and will have four years of eligibility.

"Jake is an explosive player that has enormous upside," said O'Callaghan, who has now signed four golfers since being named ETSU head coach on June 10. "His game and performances continue to improve rapidly, and I am confident his experience at ETSU will benefit his development. I instantly connected with Jake in the recruiting process. His personality and enthusiasm will bring a great deal to our program. Please welcome Jake Potter to Johnson City!"

This past April, Potter won the prestigious Peter McEvoy Trophy with a score of 5-under-par 208. Potter fired rounds of 69 and 67 to carry a four-shot lead into the third and final round. From there, Potter held off Alex Wells for the one-shot victory, marking the biggest win of his young career.

Potter has had a lot of success as an amateur. To go with his win at the McEvoy Trophy, Potter also finished third at the Fairhaven Trophy and was the highest finishing junior with a top-20 showing at Tillman. Potter, who was chosen for the Jacques Leglise Trophy preliminary squad, advanced to the semifinals at the Kent Amateur. The Jacques Leglise Trophy is an annual amateur team golf competition between Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe.

Potter is part of the Chelsfield Lakes Golf Club and attends Ravenswood High School. The Kent, England native has a scoring average of 73.21, with his lowest competitive round being a 64.

"I'm delighted to officially sign with ETSU," said Potter. "I can't thank Coach O'Callaghan enough for the opportunity he's given me. I can't wait to get playing for him and East Tennessee State in the fall."
