Men's golf returns to South Carolina for Hootie Intercollegiate

The Bucs return to the tournament for the fifth consecutive season

AWENDAW, S.C. - The East Tennessee State men's golf program continues spring action at the Hootie Intercollegiate hosted by College of Charleston over March 22-24 at the Bulls Bay Golf Club.  The Bucs return to the tournament for the fifth consecutive season. 

The greatest previous success was found in the 2023 Hootie Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay when the Buccaneers repeated as the tournament champions and set a tournament record of 40-under-par 824 (269-279-276).  All five team members (Kleen, Ege, Davies, Chartier and Doods-Berry) wrapped action in the top 25 with Kleen, Ege and Davies cracking the top 10.  

In the 2024-25 appearance, Yannick Malik shot 65(-7) in the third round to finish ninth overall for his lowest round of the 2024-25 season and his second top 10 finish of the year while the team finished ninth overall.

The teams in the field include Furman, West Virginia, Kent State, Mizzou, College of Charleston, Chattanooga, Clemson, FGCU, South Carolina, App State, Winthrop, Purdue, Coastal Carolina, Kansas and ETSU.  
 
LINEUP
LAST TIME OUT (PAUMA VALLEY INVITATIONAL)
  • Veigar Heidarsson and Richard Saunders were the top finishers for ETSU among the nation's best with individual results of 214(+1) and a tied for 34th finish apiece.
  • Yannick Malik posted the first hole-in-one by a Buc this season and the first of his collegiate career in the third round, wrapping with a score of 69(-2).
  • Oli Blackadder posted the best single-round by a Buccaneer with a third round score of 68(-3) from one eagle and five birdies.
  • The Bucs wrapped play at 11th overall with a team score of 857(+5).

2024-25 SEASON
  • ETSU men's golf secured the program's fifth consecutive Southern Conference Tournament title in the 2024-25 season, and the first for O'Callaghan as head coach.
  • The squad advanced to the 2025 NCAA Reno Regional where they finished ninth overall.
  • Kristian Bressum, Yannick Malik and Joshua Pritchett were tabbed as Cobalt Golf Academic All-Americans following the season.
  • Kristian Bressum led the program through the entirety of the season, collecting three SoCon Golfer of the Week honors and earning the SoCon Player of the Year award.  Bressum finished 21st overall at the Reno Regional (218, +7) after finishing fifth overall at the SoCon Championship (209, -7).
  • Yannick Malik was the top finisher for the Bucs at the SoCon Championships, finishing second overall with a score of 207 (-9). Previously in the season, Malik recorded a career-best outing of 61 (-11) at The Virginian.
  • Gavin Tiernan represented Ireland in the 2025 Walker Cup, where he out-scored American Michael La Sasso as a 2&1 winner.
