CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 9, 2024) – Led by junior
Sophie Bert, the ETSU women's golf team completed final round play at the Chattanooga Classic on Tuesday in rainy and cool conditions from Council Fire Golf Club.
Bert posted a second straight 2-over 73 and finished tied for 11th at 3-over-par 216 for the tournament. Overall, Bert tallied 30 pars and 11 birdies over the 54 holes en route registering her second straight top 15 finish.
Michigan's Monet Chun earned medalist honors after finishing at 10-under-par 203, while South Florida's Melanie Green was runner-up at 8-under-par 205. Chun set a new course record and 54-hole tournament record.
As a team, ETSU finished sixth in the 16-team field at 25-over-par 877.
The Wolverines swept both titles as Michigan captured the team crown with a score of 3-over-par 855. Western Kentucky (+9), South Florida (+11), Colorado State (+16) and Campbell (+16) capped off the top five teams.
Amber Thornton matched Bert with the Bucs' lowest score of the day with the 73, while
Brianna Castaldi – who shot 4-over 75 on Tuesday – finished tied for 31st at 10-over-par 223.
Alex Crafton placed in a tie for 36th at 11-over-par 224 and
Grace Chin tied for 39th at 12-over-par 225.
ETSU will now turn its attention to Southern Conference play as the championship will be held April 16-18 at Moss Creek South in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
