AUGUSTA, Ga. (April 7, 2024) – Led by another top-five finish by
Mats Ege, the ETSU men's golf team put together a strong effort in Sunday's final round of the Augusta Haskins Award Invite from Forest Hills Golf Club.
Ege, who collected his sixth top-five finish of the season, finished tied for third at 6-under-par 210. Ege posted a 2-under 70 on Sunday. For the tournament, Ege registered one eagle, 13 birdies and 32 pars.
Mercer's Tobias Jonsson earned medalist honors as he finished at 9-under-par 207. Jonsson recorded a 4-under 68 on Sunday and held off Oklahoma State's Bo Jin by one shot. Jin went low in the final round with a 6-under 66.
As a team, No. 19 ETSU carded a 9-under 279 on Sunday, resulting in the second-lowest round of the day. The Blue & Gold finished the tournament tied for sixth with No. 14 Oklahoma at 6-under-par 858.
Top-ranked North Carolina won the team title at 21-under-par 843. The Tar Heels posted a six-shot win over No 18 Texas and an eight-stroke victory over No. 32 Oklahoma State. No. 17 Illinois (-8) and host Augusta (-7) capped off the top five teams.
Algot Kleen led the Bucs on Sunday as he fired a 4-under 68 and jumped 11 spots to finish tied for 10th at 3-under-par 213. Kleen was nearly flawless on the final round as he collected five birdies, 12 pars and one bogey. Kleen played the back nine at three-under as he finished the day with back-to-back birdies on No. 17 and No. 18.
Matty Dodd-Berry finished tied for 30th at 2-over-par 218, while
Ben Carberry and
Jenson Forrester tied for 47th at 5-over-par 221.
The Bucs now turn their attention to the Southern Conference Championship as ETSU eyes a fourth straight conference title beginning April 21 at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga.
