CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 17, 2024) – The ETSU men's tennis team will open play in the 2024 Southern Conference Men's Tennis Tournament on Thursday when it faces off against UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m. at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
ETSU enters Thursday's match with UNCG with a 10-9 overall record and an undefeated 7-0 mark in SoCon action after knocking off The Citadel last Wednesday, 4-3. With its 7-0 record in league matches, the Bucs earned their fourth SoCon regular season championship in the past five seasons and their 12
th overall as members of the conference.
The Bucs will be the No. 1 seed this week in Chattanooga. Following the Bucs in seeding order are Samford, Furman, Mercer, Chattanooga, Wofford, The Citadel and UNC Greensboro. UNCG, the No. 8 seed, went 6-15 overall and 0-7 in SoCon play during the regular season.
Historically, the Bucs have enjoyed quite a bit of success against the Spartans winning 13 of the 14 all-time matchups, including a 6-1 win in Greensboro in late February. Thursday will be the second postseason clash between the Bucs and Spartans with the first coming in 2017 when ETSU came away with the 4-1 win.
ETSU has enjoyed quite a bit of success in conference tournaments over the years. Should the Bucs win three matches in three days in Chattanooga, they will have won six consecutive tournament titles and their 13
th tournament championship in school history.
