SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 6, 2024) – After collecting his second win of the season, ETSU's Mats Ege was tabbed Southern Conference Golfer of the Week as the league office announced its weekly award on Wednesday.
 
Ege rallied for the win at the Wake Forest Invitational on Tuesday at Pinehurst No. 2. The Buccaneer leader finished with a 54-hole score of 1-under-par 209. Ege began the day two shots off the lead but fired a 2-under 70 in the final round to jump to the top of the leaderboard en route to picking up his fourth career win. Ege and Auburn's Jackson Koivun earned co-medalist honors as they were the only two golfers in the 66-player field to finish below par for the tournament.
 
Ege led the entire field with 12 birdies over the two-day tournament, while also pacing the group in par-5 scoring (-4).
 
As a team, Ege led the Blue & Gold to a runner-up finish at Pinehurst as ETSU was edged by one stroke over No. 1 Auburn. The Bucs finished 13-over-par 853 and Auburn was at 12-over-par 852. Overall, ETSU finished ahead of Wake Forest (+17), Duke (+18), Clemson (+18), Northwestern (+22) and NC State (+27).
 
On Monday, Ege was one of 15 golfers named to the Haskins Award Spring Watch List.
 
This marks Ege's third career SoCon Golfer of the Week honor.
 
The Bucs are back on the course on Monday, March 18 when ETSU heads to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to defend its title at the General Hackler Championship.
