MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 20, 2024) – ETSU redshirt senior Mats Ege posted his sixth top-10 finish of the season as the Buccaneer leader placed tied for eighth at the General Hackler Championship, which concluded on Wednesday from The Dune Golf & Beach Club.
 
Making the trip back to the spot where he captured his first collegiate win a year ago, Ege posted a 1-under-par 215. Ege shot a 1-under 71 on Wednesday and finished the tournament with 11 birdies and two eagles – one of two golfers in the 80-player to register multiple eagles on the week.
 
A comeback finish was not in store for a second straight year for the No. 15 ETSU. The Bucs, who pulled within one shot of the lead on the back nine, ran out of gas as the Blue & Gold placed tied for fourth at 3-over-par 867. After making the turn, the Bucs played their first six holes (from countable scores) at eight-under but carded a seven-over over the final three holes to drop out of contention.
 
Louisville held off the charge from the pack as the Cardinals swept both the team and individual titles. The Cardinals posted a team score of 5-under-par 859, while Max Kennedy won by one shot over Chattanooga's John Houk. Kennedy finished 8-under-par 208 over the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
 
Tournament host Coastal Carolina finished runner-up at even-par 864, while Furman placed third at 1-over-par 865. Chattanooga finished tied with ETSU.

Matty Dodd-Berry shot a 1-under 71 on Wednesday to finish tied for 17th at 2-over-par 218, while Algot Kleen tied for 20th at 3-over-par 219. Remi Chartier finished tied for 31st (+5) and Jenson Forrester tied for 41st (+7).
 
ETSU heads to another familiar course as the Bucs gear up for the Hootie at Bulls Bay, which gets underway Sunday from Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Bucs have won the last two tournaments in Awendaw, S.C.
