Forrester leads ETSU in round two; Bucs sit three shots off the lead
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 19, 2024) – Led by
Jenson Forrester, the ETSU men's golf team remained in contention following Tuesday's second round play of the General Hackler Championship at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
On a day where low scoring was hard to come by, the 15th-ranked Bucs pushed through and stayed in third place after carding a 2-over 290. For the tournament, the Blue & Gold sit three shots off the lead at 1-over-par 577.
Coastal Carolina, the tournament host, made the move on Tuesday. The Chanticleers, the only program in the 14-team field to shoot below par on the day, fired an 8-under 280 to jump up seven spots to the top of the leaderboard. Coastal Carolina is at 2-under-par 574 and lead second-place Louisville by two strokes.
Furman posted an even-par 288 in round two and is three shots back of the Bucs, while College of Charleston in fifth at 5-over-par 581. Chattanooga, who held the team lead with Louisville following Monday's opener, dropped to sixth at 7-over-par 583.
Forrester led the Bucs with a 1-under 71 in round two, while
Algot Kleen posted an even-par 72. Forrester and
Mats Ege are tied for 10th at even-par 144, while Kleen and
Remi Chartier are tied for 20th at 2-over-par 146. Ege was one-under through his first nine holes, but things went a different direction after the turn where the Buccaneer played his next five holes at seven-over. From there, Ege bounced back with consecutive birdies to finish with a 4-over 76.
Furman's Clark Akers, playing as an individual, holds the lead at 7-under-par 137. Louisville's Max Kennedy is in second at 5-under 139, while two golfers are tied for third at 4-under-par 140. Coastal Carolina's Seth Taylor – one of the players tied for third – and Furman's Trey Diehl went low on Tuesday with a 5-under 67.
ETSU will be in the final group to go out in Wednesday's finale. The Bucs, who are paired with Louisville and Coastal Carolina, tee off starting at 9:30 a.m.
