Bucs win first title since 2022
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (March 17, 2024) – The ETSU women's golf team is heading home from the beach with some hardware!
The Buccaneers led wire-to-wire en route to capturing the team title at the Low Country Intercollegiate, which ended on Sunday at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
ETSU, who recorded its first team win since Feb. 2022, outlasted the Richmond Spiders for the crown on Sunday. The Bucs earned a five-shot win over Richmond after posting a tournament score of 38-over-par 902. The Blue & Gold shot a 12-over-par 300 on Sunday, while the Spiders finished at 16-over 304.
For the weekend, the Bucs led the 16-team field in par-4 (4.25) and par-5 scoring (5.27), while also pacing the group with 35 birdies.
The Bucs won three tournaments in that 2021-22 season – the final coming at the Reynolds Lake Oconee on Feb. 20, 2022.
Freshman
Brianna Castaldi led ETSU as she finished tied for second at 6-over-par 222. Castaldi, who finished one shot from capturing her first collegiate win, put together three straight rounds of 2-over 74. Castaldi led the 89-player field in par-4 scoring (3.97).
Richmond's Hannah Lydic earned medalist honors after finishing at 5-over-par 221. Lydic shot 1-over 73 in the finale.
Sophie Bert placed solo sixth at 9-over-par 225, while
Alex Crafton finished tied for 11th at 14-over-par 230. Crafton, who jumped 16 spots up the leaderboard on Saturday, moved up 16 more spots on Sunday after carding a 2-over 74.
Amber Thornton gave ETSU its other countable score on Sunday as she registered a 3-over 75. Thornton and
Grace Chin both finished the tournament tied for 31st (+20).
Madeline Simcox, playing as an individual, also finished tied for 31st.
ETSU returns to the course on April 7 when the Bucs stay in state to play in the Chattanooga Classic.
