EATONTON, Ga. (Feb. 23, 2024) – ETSU's
Brianna Castaldi paced the ETSU women's golf team in opening round play of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invite, which got underway Friday at Great Waters.
Castaldi sits in a tie for sixth place at 1-over-par 73, placing the Buccaneer freshman three shots off the lead. The Buccaneer rookie started off on the back nine where she played the first nine at one-under and moved to two-under following her third birdie on the par-5, 486-yard No. 2. Castaldi played her final seven holes at three-over to finish with the 73.
The field is chasing Delaware's Alisa Khokhlova as she fired a 2-under 70 and leads Chattanooga's Makenzie Cooper by one shot and a group of three golfers by two shots.
ETSU is in sixth following opening round play as the Buccaneers recorded a team score of 16-over-par 304.
Mercer, the tournament host, holds the first-round lead at 6-over-par 294, while Delaware is two shots back at 8-over 296 and Chattanooga is third at 9-over 297.
The Bucs' other countable scores came from
Sophie Bert (T15, +3),
Grace Chin (T44, +6) and
Amber Thornton (T44, +6).
ETSU will be grouped with Western Kentucky and Florida Atlantic is Saturday's second round. The Bucs tee of starting at 9:50 a.m. from the first tee box.
