Men’s Tennis hits the road for a match at UNC Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. (Feb. 15, 2024) – The ETSU men's tennis team will play its third straight team from the state of North Carolina on Friday when it travels to take on UNC Wilmington. First serve between the Buccaneers and Seahawks is set for 1 p.m.

ETSU's record currently stands at 3-5 on the season after back-to-back losses to UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb by identical 4-1 scores. Sophomore James Sim has picked up singles victories in each of those matches to lead ETSU. Following their matchup with the Seahawks on Friday, the Bucs will open SoCon play on February 26 when they host UNC Greensboro.

UNCW enters Friday's match with ETSU with a 2-3 record this spring. The Seahawks' victories have come against Coastal Carolina and Tulane, but they have fallen to UCF, South Alabama, and LSU. A player to watch for UNCW will be Gabe Hurtado as he took home CAA Player of the Week honors after posting a pair of wins.

Friday will mark the 10th all-time meeting between the Bucs and Seahawks. ETSU holds the edge overall winning six of the nine previous matchups. However, UNCW came away with a 4-2 win against the Bucs when the two programs matched up last April in Johnson City.
