Ege paces ETSU at Grand Reserve Golf Club
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico (Feb. 12, 2024) – The ETSU men's golf team completed second round of the Puerto Rico Classic on Monday from the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The Bucs were led by
Mats Ege in round two as he carded a 3-under 69 en route to moving into a tie for 31st at 5-under-par 139. Ege birdied four of his first seven holes, including a run of three straight on holes No. 5-7, while he picked up back-to-back birdies on No. 17-18. To go with his six birdies on the round, Ege also bagged nine pars and three bogeys.
As a team, the ninth-ranked Bucs dropped to 10th-place at 14-under-par 562. The Blue & Gold shot 5-under 283 on Monday.
Georgia made its move to the top of the leaderboard as the 43rd-ranked Bulldogs fired a 20-under 268 and sits at 33-under-par 543 through two rounds of competition. North Florida, the round one leader, is in second place at 31-under-par 545 and No. 6 Tennessee is in third at 30-under-par 546.
Purdue's Nels Surtani recorded a 7-under 65 on Monday to grab the individual lead at 12-under-par 132. Nels carries a one stroke lead into Tuesday's final round as day one leader Noah Kent (Iowa) dropped to second at 11-under-par 133.
Algot Kleen and
Archie Davies each posted a 1-under 71 in round two, while Matty Dodd-Berry and
Jenson Forrester carded even-par 72s. Forrester is tied for 35th at 4-under-par 140, while Kleen and Dodd-Berry are tied for 51st at 2-under-par 142.
Tuesday's final round will feature a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. ET with the Bucs being grouped with Ohio State and Wisconsin.
