JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 27, 2024) – East Tennessee State University women's basketball stymied Presbyterian, 64-31, on Wednesday in Johnson City.
Senior guard
Braylyn Milton and freshman guard
Carmen Richardson each scored 11 for the Bucs, who had ten players score in the win. ETSU shot 46.6% from 3-point range, with freshman guard
Lucy Hood and senior guard
Carmen Richardson each knocking down a pair of triples.
The Blue & Gold posted their best offensive first quarter of the season, scoring 20 in the opening frame. Junior forward
Meghan Downing had all seven of her points in the quarter, and the Bucs led 20-11 after one.
ETSU ramped up its defensive intensity in the second and would maintain it throughout the rest of the game, not allowing Presbyterian to post double digits in another quarter. The Blue Hose totaled nine first half turnovers against the Bucs press, which resulted in 14 ETSU points.
In the second half, the Bucs picked up right where they left off, allowing just two Presbyterian field goals in the third. ETSU had its best free throw shooting night of the season, going 7-for-8 from the charity stripe including a 4-for-4 mark in the third quarter.
The Bucs kept playing stingy defense for the rest of the game, allowing a season-low four points in the fourth quarter. The 31 points the Blue & Gold held Presbyterian to are the fewest ETSU has allowed an opponent to score since the Bucs beat Vanderbilt at Brooks Gym in 2022, when the Commodores also mustered just 31 points.
Next, ETSU ends its homestand at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, against Memphis.
