LAHAINA, Hawaii (Nov. 2, 2024) – The ETSU men's golf team is off to a strong start out in Hawaii.
Playing their final tournament of the fall season, the Buccaneers fired a season-best 13-under-par 271 in Saturday's opening round of the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate. The Blue & Gold, who were led by
Kristian Bressum,
Yannick Malik and
Joshua Pritchett, sit in seventh place and are seven shots off the lead.
Oklahoma sits atop the team leaderboard as the second-ranked Sooners posted a 20-under-par 264, and lead North Florida by two shots and No. 5 LSU and Indiana by four strokes. Oklahoma and ETSU are the reigning tournament champions where they fired a 42-under-par 810 last year at the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course.
Bressum, Malik and Pritchett combined to shoot 13-under-par on Saturday.
Bressum paced the group at 6-under-par 65, while Malik carded a 4-under 67 and Pritchett finished at 3-under 68. Bressum, who tallied five birdies and one eagle, is tied for fifth. Malik bagged five birdies en route to sitting tied for 18th and Pritchett is tied for 27th.
The field features 123 players with Oklahoma's Jaxon Dowell leading the group at 8-under-par 63. Dowell, playing as an individual, has a two-shot lead over a group of three golfers, including his teammate Matthew Troutman.
ETSU's other countable score on Saturday came from freshman
Gavin Tiernan. Tiernan posted an even-par 71.
Sunday's second round features a shotgun start beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.
