Bucs finish tied for eighth in fall debut

PAWLAY'S ISLAND, S.C. (Sept. 12, 2023) – The ETSU women's golf team concluded its first fall tournament of the season, playing in the Golfweek Fall Challenge, Tuesday afternoon. The three-day tournament, hosted at the Caledonia Golf and Fish Club, stretched from Sunday to Tuesday and saw the Bucs finish tied for eighth among 18 teams. 

The Bucs entered the final round of competition in ninth; however, after their best performance of the tournament, the Bucs climbed one spot to tie for eighth with Central Arkansas. As a team, the Bucs shot 6-over 290 on the final day, giving the Blue & Gold a score of 26-over-par 878 for the tournament. 

Sophomore Grace Chin (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and freshman Brianna Castaldi (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) posted top-10 finishes for the Bucs. Chin moved up seven spots in the round by shooting an even-par 71, improving her previous round score by two strokes. Castaldi, playing in her first tournament for the Bucs, saw her position drop by just one spot after shooting a 1-over 72 in the final round. Both Buccaneer golfers finished the tournament at 3-over-par 216. 

UNCW captured both the team and individual titles. The Seahawks edged Lipscomb in the final round of competition. UNCW finished the round at even-par 284 en route to finishing at 10-over-par 862, while Lipscomb finished with a 7-over 291 on Tuesday to finish at 11-over-par 863. 

Mallory Foles took the individual title as she beat out her teammate Victoria Levy for medalist honors. Foles posted a 2-under 69 on Tuesday to finish 4-under-par 209 over the 54 holes. Levy went low on Tuesday with a 5-under 66 to finish 2-unde-par 211. 

The Bucs take the course again this Sunday, Sept. 17, when they head to Madison, Wis. for the Badger Invitational. The three-day tournament is set to conclude on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
