PAWLEY'S ISLAND S.C. (Sept. 10, 2023) – The ETSU women's golf team took its first swings of the season at the 2023 Golfweek Fall Challenge Sunday afternoon from the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. The Bucs are sitting in fifth-place as a team after the first round, shooting 8-over-par 292.
Grace Chin (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and Briana Castaldi (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) paced the Bucs on Sunday as they are tied for 11th after shooting 1-over-par 72. Sophie Bert (Deurle, Belgium) is one shot back of her teammates in a tie for 21st at 2-over-par 73.
Lipscomb currently leads the 18-team field with a 1-over-par 285, in large part to the efforts of Lauren Thompson. Thompson leads 101-player field after carding a 4-under-par 67. Thompson will take a two-shot lead into Monday's second round as Charleston Southern's Carolina Engelbredt (-2) and Richmond's Hannah Lydic (-1) were the only other golfers to shoot below-par on Sunday.
UNCW (+4), Charleston Southern (+6) and New Mexico State (+7) occupy the next spots above the Buccaneers on the team leaderboard.
With two rounds remaining, the Bucs will look to move up the leaderboard when play resumes on Monday. ETSU is grouped with New Mexico State and Campbell in round two and tee off starting at 8:15 a.m.
