Men's tennis achieves ITA All-Academic Team status

Six Bucs named ITA Scholar Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. (July 10, 2023) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2023 Division I Men’s ITA All-Academic Teams and Scholar Athletes on Monday, as ETSU men’s tennis won the team award and placed six Buccaneers on the individual list.

ETSU’s ITA Men’s Scholar Athletes are Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela), Thiago Pernas (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezuela), Pedro Cressoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Peter Kalocsai (Hungary) and James Sim (New Zealand).

Lamas and Pernas — who finished the season as the No. 68 doubles pair in the final ITA rankings — both earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors back in May.

As a team, the Bucs posted a 3.57 GPA and was one of eight ETSU programs to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. To be eligible for the ITA All-Academic Team award, all letterwinners on the team must combine for a 3.20 GPA or higher.

 

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
  • Be listed on the institutional eligibility form

 

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
  • All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
  • All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
